DIVISION

Since the end of World War II, the Korean peninsula has been a divided nation — of its physical land, its disparate political ideologies, its economic opportunities, its relationships with other countries, its families, and the faith of its people. But God has not forgotten the people of North Korea. Jesus prayed for them — and for all believers — when he prayed:

"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.” (John 17:20-23)

AS ONE

More than any other time since the Korean division, the possibilities for interaction and cooperation seem promising. What will be the church’s reaction? What will believers do to reach those who have never heard of God’s light? It is imperative that believers sharing God’s love are one in humility, so that the message shared is clear, understandable, and accepted. Empower 2008 will provide the forum for Christians to gather, humble themselves, pray, and seek the Lord, so that unified believers will become ready to share the wonderful message of God’s love in Jesus Christ.

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.

ABOUT US

Empower is sponsored by Reah International, a Christian organization that strives to glorify God by empowering the ordinary people of North Korea. “Reah” is a Hebrew word for “friend.” Reah is based on the premise of John 15:15, where Jesus declares that we are no longer His servants but His friends if we obey Him and abide in Him.

HISTORY

The Empower 2008 Conference will be the fourth annual gathering of people who are concerned and compassionate about the people of the DPRK, and the first time Empower will include a more comprehensively international perspective. This year will also be the first time the conference is held in Seoul, S. Korea. It will include opportunities to share and discover more about other Asian nations.
